I remember when i did training for cabin crew we had a scenario where we had to evacuate a "smoke" filled cabin, what i really remember was the lack of visability, its not a situation i would ever wish on anybody

Also i'll point out that the CAA is not alone in using the 'belly-belts' from what research i've done it'd appear the US and Canada are alone in not using them
