On a recent award stay at a Grand Hyatt in Asia, I was mistakenly handed the part of the folio which showed the property's cash compensation from Gold Passport for my room. I was surprised to see that the property received approximately 65% of the full Hyatt Daily rate for the award nights (an amount close to some corporate rates at the same property). I do not see how similar compensation could be paid to properties to make FFN a worthwhile promotion for them.

I cannot envision Hyatt bringing back the FFN promotions of several years ago under present conditions. There are now more inexpensive Hyatt branded properties than ever, so in many cases FFN would amount to Hyatt essentially giving away nights at high-end properties.
