It doesn't say "stay on transit" it says "This is B Gates, remain on transit for Arrivals, Baggage Reclaim and Flight Connections all terminals". You should have not got on the transit but remained in C Gates.

There is a tendency amongst frequent flyers when in unfamiliar airports to dash around not looking at signs as if they know where they're going as it doesn't sit well being in an unfamiliar airport.
