Feel free to PM me if you want advice on specific addresses (at least for the Manhattan ones - I'm not terribly familiar with Brooklyn). The places in Upper Manhattan may either be in a really loud, crowded, poor part of town with some residual crime issues or in a beautiful, leafy co-op next to a gorgeous park. The thing is that in Upper Manhattan Broadway is a dividing line - in general, west of Broadway is great but east of Broadway far less so.
