Hmmmm…. This thread has gotten me thinking. I started a new job 12 months ago which involves a
lot more travel, so I have totted up my flights and have surprised myself!
Sadly work travel policy is ET/WT (WTP if flight > 8hrs)
24 legs of ET
2 legs of CE (2 x POUG)
9 legs of WT
6 legs of WTP
4 legs of CW (2 x UUA for holiday flights)
8 internal US flights on AA
4 x Non OW flights
Total Miles: 95,117 (Probably closer to 100,000 if taxiing around Frankfurt is included)
Op Ups: 1 (WTP to CW)… but also ended up purchasing a CW ticket from GRU to LHR as no other seats were left on the plane, so that was like an Op Up to me
So 1 from 43 upgradeable BA Flights - 2.3% – But I started with 0 status whatsoever so not a surprise that I have only recently gotten a break with this… hopefully the percentage will increase.
Special Recognition: None, beyond occasional name check on boarding.
Luggage issues: None, but rarely check bags (4 out of 57 segments)… so I guess that is officially 0%
Cancellations/Delays > 2hrs: 1 – 27 hour ‘delay’ at DFW to fly to LHR as plane went tech (Landing gear would not retract after take off)
Gate 10A: 1
Good Crews: 3
Bad Crews: 0
Elemis Spa Treatment success rate: 1/1
Times arrived at airport and realised passport is still at home: 1 (was bound to happen at some point)
Times hit on head by CC’s heels falling out of the overhead locker: 1 (but this was on one of the ‘good’ crew flights from above, so I’ll let her off)
Bottom Line (more about travelling with work than about BA, as I have minimal data points to compare with):
- Travel has gotten a lot easier as the year has gone by:
I’m much more efficient with the whole airport process now.
Travel is a much better experience with status – Lounge access when connecting; priority boarding on internal flights in the US; seat selection at booking
Being able to provide premium cabin travel with girlfriend for holidays through Avios, is a great appeasing agent when announcing you have to fly half way round the world with 2 days’ notice.
- After spending a 3 day trip to Toronto never getting further than 1 mile from the airport, I need to try really hard to tag an extra day onto trips to see some of the place I am visiting; make travelling for my job work for me!
- The glamorous image of international travel has been dispelled, but it is infinitely better than sitting at the same desk every day.
