The fact it's in the middle of no where, miles away from anywhere of interest, works against it. You have to turn up early for flights in case the dlr or tube lines are broken, and theres not a great deal to do once there.
The easyjet Esque boarding pen and the boarding scrum (given the shortage of overhead space on a typical plane) also let it down.

it's surely the least "in the middle of nowhere" of the London airports? I'm not a just-in-time type but aim to arrive at LCY generally about 45 mins closer to departure than LHR or LGW (45 mins v 1.5 hours).
Agree re the boarding scrum, but it's the downside of the limited footprint.
