Why can't anything be simple with AC/AP.

Checked with AP, they confirmed baggage as 2x32kg as I am on a J booking, even though flying the first leg in Y. They advised I check with the other airlines on the itinerary to see what their allowance was.

Checked with UA they said the allowance was 3 *32Kg and confirmed that this was true even though the first leg was in Y

Checked with Air NZ, they said they base the luggage allowance on that of the first ticketed carrier, in this case AC so 2x32kg is good

Checked with OZ, they said they base the luggage allowance on that of the first ticketed carrier, in this case AC so 2x32kg SHOULD be good BUT there is an annotation on the booking file that says only 1 bag allowed on the first leg, so that will prevail and I'll be restricted to 1 bag only. I was told that that if AC removed the 1 bag comment than I would be allowed 2 bags as per AC J class policy.

Phoned AP, explained the situation. I was told that I was only entitled to 1 bag at 20Kg as I was booked in Y. Seems the fact that I was on a J class reward meant nothing, it was the class of travel that counted. In addition I was NOT allowed J class check-in or Lounge access Not a happy camper, asked nicely if the agent would check this info as I had previously been told that J class perks would be available regardless of class of travel. Reluctantly she went away to check and 10 minutes later came back with an apology ^ and confirmed that J class perks would be available including baggage. Bad news was that she could not change the 1 bag annotation on the itinerary, AC would have to do that.

Phoned AC, AC said he couldn't do anything as it was an AP ticket, however he would phone AP and get it sorted. When he came back he was apologetic and said AP had told him, that as I was flying in Y then Y baggage rules applied Sorry, can't help call AP.

Called AP, got the most helpful person I have spoken to in long time, she confirmed J perks apply, changed the itinerary to reflect 2x32Kg regardless of class of travel, re-issued the tickets and apologised for the hoops I was made to jump through.

All sorted finally. Why do customers have to go through this cr!p, I could understand if the agent said sorry I am not sure of the rules, let me check, but to outright tell me something that is totally untrue and unfounded should never happen.

Hopefully all will go well on the day of travel.

Good news was, in 4 calls to AP throughout the day each call was picked up by an agent on the first ring, and that was using the pleb number.
