Cancelled flight and drama of rebooking and options

Had so much fun yesterday when my return flight from Philadelphia was cancelled.

I was booked in WTP+ and received a text message at 8:00am to say the 10PM flight had been cancelled.

I phoned the UK call center and although the person I spoke with tried to help, I had many problems. To start with I was told the plane had a 'technical fault' which seems a bit odd to me giving they still had 14 hours before the flight was due to leave. (apparently the same flight was also cancelled last Saturday)

When she looked at alternatives there was nothing they could book me on that day out of Philadelphia! After being put on hold for ever I eventual was given the option of going economy via Chicago. Not what I wanted, but as it was the only option I went for it. Not too happy, so I asked to speak to customer relations.

This was when things went very wrong. The response I got was tough and what did I expect them to do! Well, I expected them to operate the flight I had booked on or offer a suitable alternative. Anyway, not getting anywhere I gave up and asked for more information on the Chicago flight I had been booked on. I was then transferred again to someone else who said the flight was actually not booked and that the availability had now gone.

So at this point after an hour on the phone I was to back to going home the following day. No other options or alternatives could be offered, so I resigned myself to staying another day.

Once I calmed down, and thought about it more I looked myself for availability on flights from Newark. Turned out to be lots on multiple flights.

Phoned BA back and moved the booking to Newark and then made arrangements to get there by car. I'm a bit annoyed that BA didn't suggest I try this when I had phoned earlier.

In the end Newark was great. Very nice lounge and to my surprise an Op up to Club at the gate Crew on the flight were one of the best I've had for a while as well. Overall a good end to a bad experience.
