You will be fine. Really, they shouldn't be flicking through it although they sometimes do- rubber band/paper clipping it should help stop this.
UK drivers licence is no good for US domestics- I have tried it myself a couple of times and it is not acceptable as ID.
As soon as you have filed for AOS (congratulations by the way
) you are fine also until the outcome of that - although no stamp or evidence of this will appear in your passport until much later in the process, so its not like you could prove it to anyone based on what is in your passport anyway. To be sure, I suggest carrying a photocopy of your marriage certificate with you just in case you run into any problems with a jobsworth. Its not like some moron ID checker can march you straight to the next LHR-bound plane and deport you for seeing an entry stamp more than 90 days ago, so I wouldnt worry too much.
If you REALLY want peace of mind, apply at a British embassy/consulate for a second passport that you can use.
Quite easy to get - you will have to go in person for an interview, and have a good reason- frequent travel or passport being unavailable (due to visas etc) is the usual- a letter from a company or an attorney stating as such will suffice. My second passport letters (from clients) have been very simple and I have run into no problems initially or when renewing.
You can leave the country and then re-enter while in AOS, but you need to obtain advance parole before you leave.
