Agree - Dulles is much better than Fair Lakes and I have been to both a number of times.

I'd also look at the Hyatt House Sterling/Dulles. It is a real nice place and the staff is great but no touristy things to do nearby

There is also Hyatt Place Chantilly/Dulles South and Hyatt House Herndon. If you are just sleeping, these are fine. And some decent food in the vicinity. Again, no touristy things.

Fairlakes - worst IMHO but the end rooms are ok, location sorta sucks

IAD Herndon - location not too great either unless going to IAD early, its all suites now isn't it? not sure about that

IAD Herndon Hyatt Place - generic hotel that shares a lot with the Sheraton Herndon IAD

Hyatt Place Sterling - decent location for stuff to do but its 9 miles from IAD and I think they try to bill themselves as an airport property as they do have a shuttle but it doesn't run as late as most shuttles
