I think the problem with the tourist places in Thailand is that there are just too many choices which makes it hard to know where to even start. I often find myself paralyzed by having too many places to pick from. And then I end up going back to the same places anyway. :-)

I am planning to stay at the Rim Resort in December for a few days. It is inside the old city, close to one of the gates. Rates are a little over $100 on their website. But as always your best bet is to check Agoda.com or Asiarooms.com for discount rates. It's well-reviews on TripAdvisor
