i accumulate in BA...as, until recently....i would get great redemptions with them on the routes i travel. when i travel for business, unless i was gold, i would get nothing extra and so status would not matter since when on business i am in J anyway and when not in J, i am flying at times when having lounge access would not matter in any case and on airlines that actually let you select seats in advance so again....status would not make a hill of beans worth of difference...

in fact, last year i had double what was needed for silver but having not stepped on a BA plane, i had no status....but for an upcoming trip on LH just before my Nov year end, the same would have been the case...had BA's prices not been $CAD3000 more than LH's open jaw via LHR into BLR and out of DEL, i might have actually gotten silver but it would have made any difference to me...

[now, if i were stuck travelling Y in the EU, my story would be much much different]
