Is "Male Assist" always means pat-down?

Hi there,

i have a question on what happened to me in ORD recently.
In the UA Terminal Checkpoint 2 there was a Backscatter and 2 WTMD active. I could easily self opt-out. Once i passed through the WTMD about 2 seconds after it beeped and the guy on the scanner (nose up high barking things) yelled "Male assist! xxx" there was something after the assist, but i did not understand what it was. But in fact nobody told me to stand somewhere else. Only my shoes got swabbed and i was let go with all my stuff.
Is the yell for a Male Assist not always leading to a pat-down?

The second thing is that they opened my suitcase and i think a small amount of my travel medication went missing. Cannot tell for sure if i even packed it, but i think i did. Since i keep an even smaller amount in my carry-on it wasn't that big of a deal to me, but i was stunned by that. At least they found out that the cable tie i am using for my suitcase is reopenable and they even put it back on.

But thats just a side note, more interesting would be the male assist thing.

Cheers,
Alex
