I have an upcoming trip in economy, HKG to PEK on CA, a short layover, then to YYZ on AC.

It appears that HKG to PEK, CA allows 1 piece of checked baggage in economy. Star Alliance Gold members receive an extra one, is that correct?

PEK to YYZ, AC will allow me 3 checked baggage.

If I end up having 3 pieces with me to be checked at HKG, will CA charge me for the additional bags? Does Most Significant Carrier Rules apply here and if so, is CA known to respect MSC?
