I think this is easily prevented by using a smartphone to shoot a video (which has a timestamp) of you showing the keys (with the barcode visible) and placing them in the dropbox and showing the car is parked and damage-free.

In case of dispute, the video would be evidence, either to satisfy their claim of non-return or in case it goes to small claims court.
