Because I often entertain customers for lunch and that becomes my big meal of the day, a bowl of soup, some crackers, and maybe a bit of dessert is often ample dinner for me. (If I were to order room service it would be off the kids menu, I just don't eat that much, so the restaurant isn't losing out.)
That said, it annoys me to no end when I walk in halfway through the "appetizer" time frame and see people with overflowing plates (particularly when they dump half of it in the trash) and there is nothing left for others. I'm annoyed with both the people who waste food and the lounge for not putting more out.
In my opinion, except in the lounges where actual entrees are provided, the food is meant to be a very light dinner or appetizers, not a full meal. It's like the people who take 10 bottles of water out of a lounge. I know of one lounge that simply stopped stocking bottled water and another that it now has to be obtained from an attendant due to abuse.
