I would imagine that one of the legacy will try and experiment with rewarding elite status primarily on fare code or amount spendt my guess it would be UA not AA. The question is what will the backlash be. I would also assume that if one of the other legacy carriers does it and gets away with it the others will quickly follow suit.

The other question of course is will AA begin to assign upgrades on fare code rather than date of request (other than YUP fares) within each elite level. While I don't see AA tinkering with this in the near term eventually some bean counter saying an EXP that paid $600 for the same flight vesus an EXP that paid less than $200 should sit up front first. Maybe post Chapter 11 and particularly if Parker is running the show.
