To answer the questions.
1. I was *A gold for 5 years with BMI which is now part of BA (too bad as BA are rubbish!)
2. I asked for a status match to EB via the China offer as I divide my time between Australia, China and the UK. SAS obliged. I now have a gold BA card, gold BMI and gold EB, but will only really use the EB account.
3. I have since flown 36000 qualifying miles on this card - these are the first and only SAS ones, although I racked up something like 500,000 BMI miles and around 250,000 BA miles in the past.
4. Not sure when my membership year ends, but the gold card supplied is valid to July 2014 - which is nice!
5. I have flown SAS a few times before as my wife is from Haparanda originally so we've flown London to Lulea and also to Helsinki via Copenhagen from Manchester.
6. I wanted to remain in the Star Alliance programme with someone after BMI left as it's easily the best in terms of quality and choice. I am likely to be doing most of my flying on Singapore, Thai and Air New Zealand. No comparison when you look at the One World competitors in these markets - i.e. Cathay Pacific and Qantas.
Just a general question - how does SAS longhaul in C compare to Finnair? I used to fly Finnair short haul all the time and loved it - right up until they cut everything back and it became like Ryanair. I understand the Finnair longhaul product is nothing special and the cabin crew (although professional) don't understand service in the same way someone like Thai or Singapore does.
