It seems to now be common practise to spray an insectiside in the cabin.

Last time we flew here to Riyadh they did it prior to takeoff, the CSD announced that it was now procedure, and that the spray was harmless.

The cabin crew had to show the empty canisters at the far end, don't know if it is route specific.
