You have to draw the line somewhere.

Many transpacific flights to South Asia are scheduled to arrive close to or past midnight. I always book that night even though I am scheduled to arrive at hotel between 1-2AM. I have arrived as late as 4AM due to flight delays and have always paid for the previous night. IMHO, 8AM is as early as you can expect to check in for free.
