I would rather spend a few more hours on the plane and get to experience a better product on ANA and Thai in F and get to use their lounges etc.
I would be happy to fly United - in any class. Although, I do miss Continental.
Do note, however, that one of the routes I suggested has no UA metal on it -- viz. CHC-AKL-YVR-JFK. You could also do CHC-AKL-HNL-PHX-NYC without UA.
