Just FYI...I applied for the credit card as a first time applicant on Sunday, July 9th. I received my companion code in my AS online account on Monday, July 16th. I received the plastic card in the mail on Tuesday, July 17th. So, from my recent experience I think you can shop using the companion code even before receiving your card. Hope this helps!

Is it pretty standard for there to be a week delay from approval until the companion ticket shows up in the account?
I was just approved tonight and would like to use the CP on a Coach Thanksgiving itinerary. There is high volatility in this fare and this is the lowest it has been in some time.
