I've noticed that locations that seem to cater to either business or high end is cutting way-back on the cash + points offerings. I.e. the W Hotel in Times Square has only offered sporadically over the past year, whereas it was usually available before.

However, I have noticed that lower end properties, recent example at a Westin in Florida, where the properties who charge around 5000 points per night WILL be more likely to offer cash and points than the high end properties.

I save up points from the highest priced stays and then when I'm stuck at a Westin Airport location it's almost always points + cash $44.
