Back in January in ORD, while queuing for check-in, a ground staff in CX uniform came to me and asked if my trolley was for check-in. I replied I already checked-in my luggage (I was connecting in ORD from AA) and planned to hand-carry this. She asked to take away my trolley for quick check. She put it in that metallic cabin-sized dimension frame (I’m sure you see what I mean, they often have that next to check-in counters). And she also weighted it herself with those small hand-carry weighting devices. Hopefully it fitted and she then put that CX Cabin luggage tag on the handle. I was in Y but I don’t recall she asked to see my ticket.

That was the only time it happened to me though. ORD was kinda new back then and maybe she was simply following what she was just trained for by the book. Or as someone pointed, some ports may be more strict than others.
