There is actually a way to fold down the seat back then move it forward to retrieve your lost item under the seat. On both side of the back rest, about your elbow, there are flips open up to 2 pins. Remove the pins then flip the holding metal hook backward that will release the seat back rest. Now fold the seat back forward and let it rest on your seat. Remove the net behind the seat. Press the lay flat button, the seat will now move forward. Not many crew members know this trick. Show it to them they will be so impress.
