QUOTE=dsquared37;19241703]I hope you're being facetious about this. Fact is MP has all the data at their fingertips, all the credits and debits, and still couldn't figure out that there was a problem when prompted by the OP. They don't need to be mind readers but they do need to have a bit of intelligence which is lacking more than we'd desire.
Not accepting responsibility would be sitting on your hands and kvetching 'o woe is me my account balance is wrong.' Calling MP and indicating there's a problem could well be viewed as making an effort. Call me crazy.
.[/QUOTE]
Well I wouldn't call you crazy, nor would I call UA staff insulting names either, as the OP saw fit to do.
You obviously have a great number of posts and therefore you are to be respected for your knowledge and input. However, being around all this time you are very aware, I'm sure, that res agents, g/a's, counter folks, and MP people are not the most informed people, and that goes for probably nearly every airline in the world. Therefore, it only reasonable to expect that one needs to watch their MP account as well as they would keep an eye on their IRA, 401K, cc balance, or bank account. Therefore, it is also reasonable to assume that before one would call their financial institution to get the facts straight they would have their own facts straight and would be prepared to explain and politely argue their case by explaining each and every transaction chronologically, in a dignified and professional manner.
Calling MP with a half assed demand for a refund of 55K miles without telling them precisely why you should receive them re-credited and then running to FT for assistance stating the miles were stolen, thus insinuating that UA people are thieves, is very amateurish and petty. Receiving advise to write a "Demand Letter" first thing out of the gate is also overreaction and ill advised, also.
I would like to think that FTer's could have some sense of righteousness and understanding when dealing with MP people that are only human and need some sort of proper explanation to correct a MP members account. We don't know what the OP told the MP desk during his first 2 calls but it is apparent that he didn't get the message across or they could have probably helped him then. Finally, he called back, after receiving advise on here, and got the matter resolved.
I don't get the name calling, after getting things resolved, and that UA is always all screwed up when many of the posters on here don't have the foggiest idea of what the hell they're doing or they wouldn't be floundering and getting (usually incorrect) advise from damn near every direction imaginable.
BTW, if the OP really knew what he was doing he'd know how to make a simple phone call from anywhere in the world without much cost.
My advise to the OP & his "FT Legal Team", call somebody that cares, and us ATT or Skype next time!
Additionally, within the past few days we had a real live doctor the throw his weight around because his kids were seated behind him in the exit row and he got his seats reassigned, and he threw a major tizzy fit. Now we have a lawyer threatening a law suit at the drop of a hat, really, really scaring the hell out of UA. The next thing we will be hearing about an"Indian Chief" wanting to smoke his peace pipe in the lav!
