My Delta flights are limited to CRJs. Occassionally one flight a week offers the first class seating. Last week I received an upgrade. I was number 1 on the upgrade list out of 17.
While receiving my new seat assignment another passenger asked if he received an upgrade and the answer was NO.
Strange that when all the passengers were seated and buckled up there was a Delta pilot in full uniform sitting in seat 1A.
I don't begrudge anyone for hitting the lottery seat upgrade, just curious about the Delta policy.
Upgrades are far and few between these days.

They may legitimately be flying on a paid ticket and have status with Delta.
Very true. Think about it, employees fly space available, but if you need to get somewhere especially during the summer, you are better off paying for a ticket.
I hear more about employees being upgraded on international flight before departure when seats are open.
