I think Stuttgart and maybe Freiburg are much better ideas since it's in the right direction. why travel hundreds of km in the wrong direction when you have interesting places on your way ... both are great cities to visit, christmas markets in both cities attracts many many tourists. And Stuttgart - be aware that you can book up to 48h stopover on the same rail ticket ... safes you some of money you could spend for other interesting things
