I am a Five Star Gold member who used 2500 pts for a weekly rental in Las Vegas. When I got my estimated charges on the card they give you when you pull out, it was about $24, which seemed reasonable to me considering that I knew I still had to pay the taxes.
When I returned the car on Weds 8/22, there was a huge back up of cars waiting to be checked in, and hardly enough room for the cars that were there (there was barely enough room for 1 or 2 more cars after mine. I think right after I got my luggage out of the car the opened another lane, which should have freed things up a bit). Anyway, the Hertz rep, who was a few cars ahead of mine, yelled out to everyone behind her, "it's ok to leave your keys in the car and I will check it in." The guy in front of me grabbed his rollerboard and sped off, so I decided to do the same, especially figuring that since I was on an award reservation so there'd be no extra charges. So I took her at her word, and left my car. I get my folio a few days later, and find out that I was charged $50.22 for "fuel and services." I filled up my car immediately prior to returning, at the Rebel on S. Las Vegas Blvd. Of course I don't have my receipt, since I didn't think it would be needed, and have never had this problem before.
I emailed Cust Service on 8/27 to remedy this, and still have not received a response, other than their auto generated email stating that they will respond to emails in the order in which they were received.
I never realized what a common issue this is w/Hertz, from doing a search on here and even looking at posts from the last few weeks. I'm hoping I can get this easily resolved, but with their lack of communication I'm really questioning this. Now I know better, and in the future will be diligent about taking a picture of the dashboard with the gas gauge, as well as keeping all receipts.
At this point I'm not sure what I should do. Should I dispute the charge with my Visa, even though I am liable for $23.85 of the total charge? Is there a special phone # for Five Star members? Or does having that status really not mean anything?
