It's quite possible that the other passenger was simply pulling both his roll aboard and that of his companion. If your carry-on is small enough to fit under your seat and they needed extra overhead space, then I can completely understand the FA's request. I think you're making a mountain out of a mole hill here, and your response to the FA was uncalled for. Get over it and move on to your next mileage run.
Gave my FC seat up to a soldier. In the future I'm just going to bring a lager bag. I only bring one bag because I want extra leg room and don't feel like I should have to move it because other people bring too many large oversized bags.
