Whilst I have no interest in becoming a BA Gold Card holder (unless it happens as a result of flights I would have taken anyway), the Silver card I see as a benefit for the seat selection options.
These "free" Avios have basically secured BA a new customer who will take at least 2 CW flights a year to maintain the ability to select seats when making redemption bookings.
That's not to say it doesn't p*** me off that BA charge to choose CW seats (as I've been able to select my F seats without charge I'm assuming they don't charge for F), but as there's nothing I can do about that policy, I just have to chalk it off and look at the positives; "free" flights in premium cabins around the world.
