A 200 travel voucher also gives you a lot more options, especially when low-tier award availability isn't there when/where you want to fly.
Award tickets for PM/DM are flexible as well since fees for changes/cancellations are waived. That and SDC allow me to book flights with less than ideal times and dates. For example I may be willing to start my vacation on a saturday afternoon but would rather leave saturday morning or friday evening. Plus DL might release T/sale fares later on and I've seen them get as low as about $220.
Believe it or not JFK-LAS is not usually a hard upgrade IME (the fare I posted was a U fare BTW). I've usually gotten upgrades on this route even as an FO though I'll be a PM next time I fly it (of course times and dates play a big role as well). I ordinarily don't go in expecting an upgrade and may not get it on the friday evening before the long xmas weekend or the wekend of the superbowl. But I'd surprised if I don't get upgraded at the PM window on my xmas day redeye.
