I'd agree that National's program is better than Avis. My company switched contracts from Avis to National early this year, and it's such a breath of fresh air - rewards that have fewer restrictions, much more pleasant station staff, easier to get in and out. So many times with Avis my name wasn't on the board - I never have this issue with the National office I use, even though they don't have an Emerald Aisle. When I return the car it's a much easier drop, too.
It could be that this station (Metro Hall, downtown Toronto) is exceptionally well run. Heck, the Branch Manager has even makes a point to pop out and say hello to me on a regular basis, but I also had a great experience in YWG.
Many National locations also hand out free water, which is a plus after a flight.
