Don't think AA would care if you refunded the ticket and replaced it with a BA ticket, because AA and BA share revenues and profits across the Atlantic. The joint business agreement that was blessed with ATI by the EU and the US governments permits AA and BA to act as one company across the Atlantic ocean.
I used BA for my example, but should (in light of the payment linking between aa and ba) used vs or cyprus instead.
The point I'm trying to convey is that "stupid" questions can lead to (big) losses in revenue for aa. [The "old" typical questions "who packed your luggage?", "did someone give you something to carry-on", do have some relevance to airplane security; how much one earns and how long their company has been in business does not.]
PS: How does TSA know that the inane questioning is really taking place--is there a TSA agent stationed at the entrance of aa AC lounge in LHR?
