One thing I want to point out is that LMKL low season = Similian Islands closed. I bring this up just because you write this in a "we were sad to find that the Islands were closed..." when, in fact, this is the low season/high season driver at the resort. My wife and I have a great low season package for mid-October. Try pricing that out on Nov 1 when the Islands open, and well, no villa for us.
I highly recommend Rim Lay and the cafe on the beach in the opposite direction as well. Both are quirky and extremely casual, but we always had great meals at both.

As for the Similans...meh. We hit the Surins a couple of years back and there was no comparison based on our experience. Of course, in low season, it doesn't matter since both will be closed.
