2 New passports=14 years=$220+cost of pics
1 new passport+extra pages=14 years= $192+1/2 cost of pics that 2 passports would take.
I guess it is a negligible difference of $28, but $28 saved is $28 saved.
Either I am missing something in your calculations or you are in error. Adding extra pages does not extend the life of your passport. It is still only valid for the original 10 year period.
Look at it this way. If you exhaust all your pages after 7 years, you are effectively paying $15.71 per year ($110/7). If you add the extra pages, you are paying $19.20 per year ($192/10). I'd just renew it and ask for the 52-page passport (which you may or may not get - although I requested the 52-pager on my recent renewal, the consulate messed up and I got a 26-pager and I then had to fight for them to correct their error and eventually got extra pages added at no cost except for the 3 hour rt drive to the consulate).
