Thanks to everyone who responded. Yes, I meant Rome to Atlanta, not Paris to Rome. I got a flight with only one connection, through Dulles, which I suppose is the best I could do, business class for 50,000 miles one way. For the return trip, I will try to get a direct flight Atlanta to Paris, if United will put me on Lufthansa. I suppose when I call I'll have a chance; if anyone has additional advice, please let me know.
