We have different last names so that is not an issue, lol.
If I were traveling with another adult I would do the two aisle seats across but since she is only 11, I would prefer to sit next to her so if she needs to be entertained, we can play cards or something.
I was feeling pretty reassured until someone mentioned the middle-seat person might want the aisle seat. I get a bit claustrophobic and have to be in an aisle seat so I'll have to hope that is not an issue.
I checked the dates: traveling on the NY/ORD segment it's the 27th of March and right in the middle of Passover so maybe less passengers.
However on one of the legs of the return IAH/LGA it is the Monday after Easter so I'm sure that one WILL be an issue.
All we can do is hope for the best. I really hate the 3 across.
I would rather sit in the middle than the window, because like you, I am claustrophobic - so in this scenario, the only switch I would be prepared to make is middle for aisle (I don't want to move even further from the aisle!) In an ideal worlds this doesn't happen as I pre-book an aisle seat, but I just wanted to warn you that it could.
