But I already have all sorts of information about me all over various computer systems - including all of my passport information, numerous credit cards, birthdate, etc. So does pretty much every single one of us here who flies internationally on a commercial airline or who uses credit cards to begin with.

I keep a scanned copy of my passport where I can get it online. The potential benefits of having access to that are meaningful, whereas the incremental (new) security risk introduced is not.
