I'm one of the people who thinks this is kind of obnoxious, especially as most of the time you will have to switch anyway.

My feeling is that a lot of people will be stuck in middle seats, and it just makes sense that where two people are traveling together they should just take two seats together (especially if one of them is an 11 year old).
