Fortunately:
1) I got a flawless 3G Skype connection to AA
2) I got a very patient agent willing to try everything I could find on EF
3) I don't mind a transit in Caracas
Wow, you are gutsy to transit at CCS! Please be safe at Maiquetía. Don't even make eye contact with the "change money" guys who will accost you landside in the terminal. Be wary of guys wearing official-looking uniforms, as criminals are increasingly wearing them to try to extort money (or just rob people). Try to remain airside as much as possible.
One question: does AA offer original routing credit?
Yes, an involuntary reroute should allow ORC, but
you must call to request it AFTER the mileage posts for the flights you actually took. After you call, expect 72 hours for the correct ORC to appear in your account online.
