I'm on the younger side, but old enough that I was a bit surprised to be asked for ID. I was pretty annoyed at first, but had similar treatment on several boat tours, etc around Maui (but not at any restaurants) so my guess is the local PD had just been cracking down on resorts a bit recently. I just carried my drivers licenses and room key with me so it really wasn't a huge deal in the end.
