I assume you mean 2300 USD?
JFK-BOM, leaving Monday Sep 3rd, returning Friday Sep 7th, is $5,233.16, so your 2300 one way looks like a bargain to me.
Like all airlines, BA offer full fare flights, fully flexible, with no restrictions, which some people and companies routinely pay.
They also offer deeply discounted flights, with certain restrictions (Only returns, Saturday night stay, no changes, etc)
BA have chosen not to offer deeply discounted tickets on this route for one-way fares. They can fill the cabin with what they think are more lucrative fares. The business of of us that do buy full-fare one way flights (I did on Singapore Airlines last week) more than make up for the loss of a few holiday makers that barely break even.
If you don't like it, look elsewhere, it's not like BA are pulling a Ryanair. The prices shown are the prices charged. Use ITA to find a good flight for your needs.
If you insist on using BA, Avios
might be a good option for this flight. Or you could choose Air India, for $736 leaving Monday, via Paris and Delhi. If you're not a sadist, Qatar and Ethiad do singles for under $900.
If you're after miles, but aren't desperate enough for Air India, fly SQ via Frankfurt and Singapore for $954, or if you insist on one world, fly Cathay one stop via HKG for under $1000.
BA aren't even that bad as $2300, Air France will set you back $3,100
