Ideas on traveling thru Southern Germany
I am looking for any advice/suggestions for a 12-13 day trip I am taking to mainly Germany.
Before I detail my specific plans, I should mention that I am not a big city or "touristy" type of man. I'm not all that interested in historical sites or museums, for example. I prefer less crowded, more charming types of smaller cities/towns where I can, hopefully, more easily experience the areas true culture - the people, the food, the beer, the lifestyle. I am a very active middle aged man and really enjoy hiking and bicycling.
That said, my tentative plans as of now are to start my trip in Freiburg im Breisgau. I was originally planning on using trains to travel about but am now seriously considering renting a car. From Freiburg, my next destinations in order are Villingen-Schwenningen, Fussen, Mittenwald and Munich (drop off car if I rented one).
If anyone could offer their thoughts on this - too much to do in my time frame, any city/town I should consider, places to stay in a single room(reasonable but safe), etc... I would be MOST appreciative.
Thanks.
