Silly question - isn't everyone technically allocated a seat during booking, regardless of cabin and status, but this doesn't always show up on the MMB seat map?
If this were the case, BA would not be able to oversell cabins as there would be no seats left to allocate.
Also, if there were an underlying but invisible allocation, it would not be possible for status or full fare passengers to select these seats.
