This is wrong. Your wife can book the room using her points and put it in your name. Your gold HH number will be on the reservation and you are entitled to benefits under Honors terms. Have your wife call and make the reservation and just let the agent on the phone know your HH#. You will be entitled to all the gold benefits even on a rewards stay. It doesn't matter where the points comes from, you are staying , you are gold, you get the gold benefits.
