I'm trying to book an award flight from Rome to Paris in mid-December, and then Atlanta to Paris near the end of January, and all I'm finding are terrible options with two connections and long layovers, etc. Any ideas about how to find a better flight? Does United fly direct from Rome, or any European city, to Atlanta? I am very flexible about the dates and even the city, but I can't come up with anything workable.

I wouldn't waste your miles on FCO-CDG. There should be plenty of cheap revenue tickets around with one of the LCCs. If you have to, book a round-trip and throw away the backend. As to FCO-ATL, UA flies FCO-IAD-ATL or you could go FCO-FRA-ATL on LH.
