Added Bonus for Colonia
For those going to Colonia, and also to the group dinner Sunday night, and with a desire to experience some Buenos Aires as a common Porteño, I will be happy to escort you from the Buquebus Terminal to the Dinner in Palermo via the San Martín Train.
We will walk from the Buquebus terminal about 10 blocks to Retiro Station, passing the Sheraton Hotel & Convention Center along the way. Retiro Station is surrounded by lots of street-type vendors, and crowded with people 24 hours a day. Although Sunday is the quietest day, it will still be a nice taste of a less touristy spot.
We will board the San Martin Train. If you have a tourist book, this is often the train referred to as "not for tourists". It is a basic train, and can be crammed and overflowing on weekdays, with people literally hanging on outside the cars.
On Sunday, it wont be so busy, and you will most likely have a regular seat, like in a subway car. But still, it is something most tourists wont experience.
We will only be going one stop, about 10 minutes, and the cost is something like 15 cents.
From the Palermo station, we will walk about 5 blocks to the restaurant.
For those not interested, taxis are everywhere, and will take you directly to the restaurant or wherever.
You can decide when we get back to Buenos Aires after Colonia.
Also, as we will have some time to kill, we could stop for coffee and a pastry along the way, too...
