The Colonia excursion is not something that I plan or book, I can just point folks in the right direction.... the usual way folks do this quite simple, you go to the Buquebus website and purchase a round-trip fare... this leaves you the flexibility to do what you want in Colonia, including where to eat, when to do what etc. All you have to worry about is making it back to the Port on time to catch you return trip.
For coordination purposes, I suggest those going try to achieve consensus on which ferry you want to take out and back...

This is the link I'm using. The cheapest fare is called "Tarifa Programada" and the box with its conditions pops up in Spanish, although the boxes explaining some of the other fares such as Primera do show me the conditions in English, which seem to say that these are tickets good for 365 days etc.
The fare I'm seeing for Tarifa Programada is 236 outbound (Buenos Aires to Colonia) 8:45-10:00 am and 251 for the return 4:30-5:45 pm, for a total of 487. This sounds like the $105 ticket that someone else reported.
Am I doing this right? The next step seems to be to fill out a form with passport information.
