Just got back from another weekend stay at the Westin Canal Place, and it was great as always. Booked a 3-night, standard king room on a Z3H rate, and was upgraded to a Bienville Suite facing the French Quarter and the River. Probably one of the best views in the city.

I agree with Tuffy, I continually get great SPG Plat upgrades here, and while I've had some luck at the Sheraton down the street, I've consistently gotten little love at the two Ws nearby.

Also as a tip, I've had luck calling the hotel's guest services line 48 hrs prior to checkin and gotten pre-upgraded over the phone. YMMV, but it's worth a shot for the occasional pre-arrival confirmation.

One new thing that's arisen at the Westin since I was last there in March is elevator repair. They've got several not operational while they modernize their elevators, and this can cause a slowdown trying to get from the ground to the lobby and the lobby to your room.

While I had to wait for an elevator longer than I'd like, my stay here was fine as always.

Back when I stayed here as a gold, I pretty consistently got upgraded to View rooms. I don't think I ever got a suite, though.
